IELTS Life Skills

IELTS Life Skills is an English test for those who need to show their English speaking and listening skills in order to apply for a visa or immigration. IELTS Life Skills is available at the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) levels A1 and B1.

IELTS Life Skills A1 is aimed at people who need to show their English speaking and listening skills at CEFR level A1 as part of their application to the UKVI for a Family, Spouse, or Partner visa.

IELTS Life Skill B1 is for those who need to show their English speaking and listening skills at the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) level B1 as part of their citizenship/settlement application to UKVI.

Test format

IELTS Life Skills is available at two levels:

  • A1 Speaking and Listening (16-18 minutes)
  • B1 Speaking and Listening (22 minutes)

There will not be any break between Speaking and Listening.

How is IELTS Life Skills assessed?

The following criteria will be used by a certified IELTS Examiner to evaluate your performance during the Listening and Speaking test:

  • obtaining information
  • conveying information
  • speaking to communicate
  • engaging in discussion

There are no band scores with any of the Life Skills tests, your results will be given as a pass or fail.
